Game Over 08/17/2004 04:01pm

The Fall turn has been processed. There were two retreats. germany
and Italy both had only one place to go with their retreat so I took the liberty of retreating those two myself. Turkey though gained three centers this year placing him at 19. This game ends with Turkey the declared winner. it was fun managing you guys throughout this game and I hope you will all want to play again on one of my games. i will be getting one up in September so check back then. I will work on getting this game's results on to the DIPLOMACY STANDINGS page. There was not much press in this game but you are now free to read everyone's. There was some in the beginning but it died out towards the end. Congratulations Turkey. --- El Presidente |

Well that was rediculous. I don't understand why France was so intent
on losing the game along with the rest of us. We could have had a 5 way draw. Oh well, you can only play with what you're given, and apparently Scott wasn't given a whole lot upstairs. --- S. Morgenstern |

bite me 08/19/2004 01:34pm

| From: France To: Broadcast |
There was at no time any chance of a five-way tie. So stop being
disingenuous. Italy was toast because Turkey was too powerful. France was toast because I was facing both Germany and England. If I was going to lose, I was going to try to take you two down with me. You created the situation why whine about it? So spare me your silly public tantrums and spare me the personal attacks. Would you just have rolled over? |

Whatever 08/19/2004 07:29pm

I had the stalemate in the north if you hadn't interfered. England was
about to get there in the south. I don't understand where the impossibility of a 5 way comes in. Italy didn't matter. You didn't matter. Turkey was stuck if you hadn't supported him. And I'm not sure how I deserved your aggression. I never really attacked you all game. Besides the fact that you didn't want me in Belgium (which I stayed out of the first year as per our agreement) I'm not sure how I played against you at all. I was never in Burgundy. I was never in Picardy. Please explain this to me. I'd love to be enlightened. Now that I've read all the press, I'd have to say it was a pretty amusing game. If Turkey hadn't have dominated the board I think there would still be a three-way war in the West. You have to admit that the press was comical. --- S. Morgenstern |

Why would you settle for a five-way? 08/19/2004 07:56pm
| |
| From: France To: Broadcast |
.. when a three-way was easily attainable and you would score better?
Germany and England would have eventually eliminated France. Turkey was about to eliminate Italy. Since for me elimination = a loss --> why would I want to take a loss alone when I could bring you guys down as well. Yes, I have since read most of the press since my last broadcast, and it pretty much confirms what I said. France would not have survived to any draw. Your insistence on Belgium from the beginning marked you as an aggressive player. Sure, there was nothing either England or I could do about it, but it created a level of suspicion from the very beginning. The press confirmed those suspicions as well. Russia was self-destructive and Austria was non-communicative. All I had left to work with was England and you pretty much had him sewn up. The diplomacy you executed was brilliant. However, tactically, you should have moved to eliminate me sooner. I was rather surprised to live long enough to be a spoiler. |

Fun game 08/21/2004 11:31am
| |
| From: Turkey To: Broadcast |
This was my first win in one of these games. Usually I am taken out by
Aaron pretty early, but with him being on the other side of the world in this one I knew it was my chance. If Russia or Austria had put up any kind of fight at all in the beginning I would have been in trouble. I could see early on the England was working with Germany and knowing the kind of player that Aaron is (which is very smart and convincing) I knew I had to move early to get some power before the two of us met up. I had warned france early on about that combo up north, and he was in a tough situation. His only real chance was teaming up with Italy. I couldn't get to him in time to be of any real help, but I was thankful of his honesty towards turkey early on. If the game had continued I would not have attacked France, instead focusing my forces on holding back England and taking over Germany. But it was fun, especially in the beginning, and I know how lucky I was to win. Thanks for the game everyone. |

A monkey could have won that game 08/22/2004 01:07am

| From: Germany To: Broadcast |
Not to take anything away from you, you did play a good game, but a
monkey could have won that game as turkey. Austria and Russia played suicide, so you had 8 units in 1901 and no one except Italy could do anything about it, and lets be honest, there was nothing he could really have done at that point anyways. I now take back my original comments about Scott. I've read the press and understand why things shaped up the way they did. I still honestly wish I could have gotten through to him. The entire game I wanted to ally with France against England, but we could never jive. Before you knew it, Turkey was running away with the game and I was forced to build armies. By that time an FG vs E was out of the question and I needed England to take out France so that I didn't have to worry about that end of the board. Honestly Scott, it was you I wanted to ally with. As Germany I will never trust England. Ever. It's too easy for England to stab Germany. I'm sorry I caused so much friction by wanting Belgium so much. I still don't see how that's really such a big threat. Well, that's pretty much all I have to say about that game. Good game Turkey, although you would have to be a pretty terrible player to not have won it. --- S. Morgenstern |
