I want to do one of these mafia game things too, so I will, and it's going to be awesome because I'm running it, so you should definitely join this.
The core rules are the same, there are night phases and day phases, beginning with a night phase. The roles will be different though, and everyone will get some kind of special role because being a regular citizen is really really boring, so everyone gets at least one chance to do something. As usual, all roles will be given randomly when sign-ups close and Night 1 begins.
One rule change though... after every night phase, I won't say how anyone killed that turn was killed, unless otherwise specified, until the end.
For convenience, records of public votes will be kept in this first post after the game starts. At the end, all night phase actions will be revealed with the roles.
Also, I would like for those who are killed to not try to continue to participate in the game, aside from the usual "Oh, I got voted out... great" post, which is ok, but only those who are alive at the time should be active in mafia-game related talking about who is suspicious/mafia.
Finally, and this is very important... don't give out your role! Ever! I don't care if you think that it is a "strategy"; revealing your role, or even lying about it, is totally lame, so don't do it or I will hate you very much for it. And I'm very thorough when it comes to hating people, even long after the original reason is forgotten. I don't care if you are about to be killed, or have been killed, just don't do it, be patient and wait until the end of the game. Even if there is a game related reason for a role to be revealed, then I will reveal it, not you.

Roles:
THE MAFIA (5)
Mafia Boss: Nothing unusual here. The mafia boss gets first priority in the mafia on who gets killed, even if the other mafia members say otherwise.
Mafia Members (3-4): Mafia members who vote on who to kill. Majority vote decides on the mafia kill if the mafia boss does not make the decision. If there is a tie, I pick randomly.
Of these 3-4 regular members, each has a special ability that can be used once.
The Intimidating Mafia Member: This mafia member can use intimidation one night to keep one person from performing a night action. The victim will be informed that the Intimidating Mafia Member canceled out their action, but will not be informed of who did it. If the victim could only use their night ability once, then it cannot be reused. If the Intimidating Mafia Member used his ability on one who did not use a night ability, then his ability cannot be reused even if it had no effect, and the victim will not be informed that it happened. The Intimidating Mafia Member will not be told if his ability had an effect, or what it was if it did.
The Vengeful Mafia Member: The Vengeful Mafia Member gets very angry when voted for, and once during the game, may override the Mafia Boss's vote, as well as any protection active by the Angel or Police Chief, as long as the target voted for the Vengeful Mafia Member at least once in a previous day phase. It will not be revealed that the Vengeful Mafia Member used his ability.
The Mafia Spy: The Mafia Spy can use the ability to cover-up the mafia in one night. If The Detective investigates any mafia member during this night, the detective will get a false answer to be chosen by the Mafia Spy. (Ex: Mafia Spy chooses the false role to be The Police Chief, then if The Detective investigates a mafia member, I tell him that he was The Police Chief) (Hint: I advise against choosing the detective as the false role)
The Mafia Apprentice: If there are enough people joining to warrant another mafia member, then The Mafia Apprentice can use any one of the other 3 mafia abilities under the same rules, but only after that mafia member has used his ability first. This can be used once and for only one ability.
The game ends if all 5 Mafia members are killed, except for a special condition described below.
THE PEOPLE (14)
The Detective: Investigates one living person's role each night, unless otherwise specified. If he investigates a mafia member, the mafia member's exact role is not given, just that they are in the mafia.
The Angel: Can protect one person each night, though this can be overridden under certain conditions. The Angel can only protect himself once, and cannot protect the same person twice in a row.
The Messiah: If killed, The Messiah will resurrect three turns later and can vote normally again. His role will also be revealed at this point. This can only happen once.
The Rich Black Guy: The Rich Black Guy is always being accused of crimes he didn't commit. If investigated by The Detective, he shows up as either a Mafia member or The Serial Killer. If the Police Chief is on duty, The Rich Black Guy will not be protected like everyone else. However, he also the ability to hire a rich lawyer, so if chosen to be voted out in the day phase, he is shown as innocent as is not killed. Of course, his role will be revealed when this happens. When killed during the night phase (He is immune during the day after all), his role will be revealed if the Police Chief was on duty.
The Police Chief: The Police Chief has a one-time ability to protect every person in the night phase, except for the Rich Black Guy.
*The Rich Black Guy and the Police Chief are very familiar with each other and know the role of the other.
The Arbiter: This person breaks a tie if the day vote leads to one, which is automatically determined by who The Arbiter voted for if he voted for one of the people who is tied in votes. His role is not revealed when this happens, and this is done as many times as there are ties. If The Arbiter did not vote for either of the people who are tied, he decides in private, by PM'ing me, and his role will still not be revealed. If The Arbiter is killed and then there is a tie... well... I don't know, I'll figure something out.
The College Fraternity Brothers (3): Each College Fraternity Brother knows who the other College Fraternity Brothers are. Every 3 turns, any College Fraternity Brother may use a Party action during the night in which they invite one person by role to their party (ie, invite The Rich Black Guy or The Messiah, not one of the other players by name). Though they got drunk and were unable to identify the person invited, they will know if this person showed up (proving they were still alive), was too busy to show up (is alive but enacted some other kind of action that turn), or never got the invite (is dead). This may not be used on the Mafia members, as that would make it a bit too easy... Also, this action may be saved up, and two may be used per night (theoretically on night 6 or later) to invite two roles, though this will count as two actions. The action will be made public just like The Police Chief's action, but the invitee will not be specified nor the result of the action in public. The invitee will be made aware of this if invited, even if he did not show up, but not of who The College Fraternity Brothers are.
The Serial Killer: Every 3 turns he may kill someone during the night phase. These may be saved up, but only one can be used per night, (No double kill on night 6).
The Angry Protester: The Angry Protester has a one-use ability to cancel out all day votes against a certain person, not including himself. This is treated as if the one with the most votes had 0 votes instead. This action is done privately as if it were a night phase action, only during the day, and his role is not revealed when this is used, though the action itself is, and all votes are still made public. The Angry Protester can even vote with the majority and then protest it in secret to get someone else out and appear to have not supported it.
The French Guy: The French Guy is very experienced at running away when danger approaches. During one night phase, The French Guy can run away, avoiding getting killed for that night, even if The Vengeful Mafia Member was after him. If the French Guy actually avoids a murder, he is not made aware of this, though whoever tried to kill him will be aware of his role.
The Necrophiliac: By certain unspecified means, The Necrophiliac can learn the role of one dead person every 3 turns. These can be saved up, but only one can be used per night, (No double "action" in one night).
The Mind Controller: Once during the game, The Mind Controller can choose during a night phase to make another person vote a certain way during the next day phase (I must get the name of the person being mind controlled and their vote before the day phase). That person must vote that way next turn, though they will not be informed of who The Mind Controller is. It doesn't matter if the vote itself is made publicly or privately, but I'd like for the victim to not give it away that he is being mind controlled if it is public.
THE ETERNAL RIVALS (2)
The Ninja: The Ninja hates The Pirate and everything he represents.
The Pirate: The Pirate hates The Ninja and everything he represents.
The Ninja and The Pirate know who each other are, but are not allowed to reveal that information to anyone. They have a unique goal in that it does not matter to them if the citizens or mafia wins, their only goal is to get the other killed before getting killed themselves, so either the Ninja or the Pirate will be declared a winner at the end. Even if both die at some point, one will win just by outlasting the other. If the mafia loses and both remain alive, the game continues without me saying that the mafia lost until either The Pirate or The Ninja are killed somehow. If one is killed before the game ends, it will not be announced whether The Ninja or The Pirate won, and the remaining rival can continue however he chooses since he already won, but still cannot reveal his role.

Stuff:
Roles that know the roles of others:
Mafia - All 4-5 know each others exact roles.
Friends - Know each other.
The Ninja and The Pirate know each other.
The Rich Black Guy and The Police Chief know each other.
The Detective and The Necrophiliac can learn the roles of others and each other, possibly.
The College Fraternity Brothers can find out if a role still exists or not
Action Priority Issues:
If The Angry Protester uses his action when The Rich Black Guy was to be voted out, then The Angry Protester's action takes priority and The Rich Black Guy is not revealed.
If The Angry Protester uses his action, and that causes The Rich Black Guy to be next in line to be voted out, then The Rich Black Guy will be revealed and will live as if he had the most votes.
If The Detective is killed during the night, his investigation will not have taken place. She same applies to The Necrophiliac.
If The Angel protects anyone except for The Rich Black Guy during the Police Chief's action, then it's as if The Angel's action did not take place, and he can still protect that same person next turn.
If The Mind Controller controls The Arbiter, then The Arbiter's vote still counts for a tiebreaker, though The Mind Controller will not know this.
If The Mind Controller controls The Angry Protester, The Angry Protester can still use his action that turn despite having his vote controlled.
If The Mind Controller uses his action during the night, but gets killed that night, the mind control will not work in the following day phase.
If The French Guy uses his action during the Police Chief's action, then it's as if The French Guy's action did not take place, and he may run away at a later night phase.
If The Mafia and The Serial Killer try to kill the same person, that person dies, but nobody will be informed of what happened until the end.
If The Serial Killer uses his action on someone who is protected from death in some way, then it still counts as an action.
If The Mafia chooses to kill The Serial Killer, then The Serial Killer is killed before he can kill anyone.
If The College Fraternity Brothers invite anyone during the night, the invitee's action always takes priority, though The College Fraternity Brothers will be informed of this.
Actions that are revealed, including by who:
All day votes, even if sent to me by PM.
Actions that are revealed, but not by who:
All Mafia Kills (Obviously).
The Police Chief's action.
The Arbiter's D2D effect.
The Angry Protester's action.
The College Fraternity Brothers' action.
Events that reveal ones role:
The Messiah returning to the game.
The Rich Black Guy getting out of a day vote.
Actions that are not revealed if they have no effect:
The French Guy's action. (Only revealed to potential killer if action used that night)
The Intimidating Mafia Member's action. (Only revealed to the targeted person, and then only the action itself revealed)
Angel Protection. (The Angel and the potential killer will be aware of it, but will not be told who the other was)
Actions that are never revealed:
The Detective's action.
The Necrophiliac's action.
The Mafia Spy's action.
The Mind Controller's action.
Roles that can do stuff every night phase:
All Mafia (Votes, not other abilities)
The Detective
The Angel
Roles that can do stuff once every 3 days:
The College Fraternity Brothers
The Serial Killer
The Necrophiliac
Roles that can do stuff in only one night phase during the game:
All 3-4 Mafia Members sub-abilities.
The Police Chief
The French Guy
The Mind Controller (Activated at night anyway)
*The Angry Protester (This is done during the day, but I figured I'd put this role here to note that this can also only be done once.)
*Other roles don't have night actions, but have some other kind of ability.
Win Conditions:
Mafia - Kill all others.
The People - Mafia is killed.
The Ninja - Outlives The Pirate.
The Pirate - Outlives The Ninja.
*The Ninja and The Pirate can potentially tie.
If there is any possible situation where a rule must be made or specified, try to ask before it starts, or ask privately after the game starts.
If you join, try to be on the forums regularly to check this for updates, and watch your PM box as well. I'm not going to wait forever, you'll have enough time to make day votes if you try. And if you want to do a night action and you miss your opportunity and it goes to day phase, then that's too bad for you, try harder to get your action sent to me quickly. You will have enough time to do it if you don't wait for an unnecessarily long time to message me, or post here for a day phase.

Things Added Late:
September 16th, during Night 1.
1. If The Mafia Boss is killed or does not vote during the night phase, ties among the other mafia members are decided by whichever member PM'd me first.
2. If The Mafia Apprentice chooses to copy The Vengeful Mafia Member's ability, he is limited to who voted for himself, not The Vengeful Mafia Member.
3. The Police Chief's action does not stop The Detective, The College Fraternity Brothers, The Necrophiliac, or The Mind Controller, just any kills against anyone except The Rich Black Guy.
4. If the College Fraternity Brother's use their action on somebody who is killed that turn, they will be informed that that person is dead, but not that it happened that turn, as if that role was killed off before.
5. If you're mind controlled, and if you say nothing in public, your vote will made automatically without you needing to say anything, as obviously I will know who you're voting for.
6. If the Mafia and the Serial Killer both try to kill in one night, and one target is The Angel while the other is the one that The Angel was protecting, then the protection still works even though The Angel will be killed.
7. The College Fraternity Brothers are the only ones whose actions require sending the name of a role, everyone else sends a name of a person.
8. For counting purposes near the end of the game to determine if the Mafia has won or not, the Messiah will count as being alive until he dies the second time.
9. The Angel can't protect The Messiah after he dies once, but The Police Chief's action can.
10. If The Angry Protester uses his action when there is a tie between two people, he chooses which one gets their votes against set to 0, and The Arbiter, if alive, has no effect on it. If more than 2 tie (if that happens somehow), then one is protested and The Arbiter picks between the rest of those who are tied.
11. Since The Angel's protection is not made public, and neither is that of The French Guy running away, an avoided kill will not be specified as to which case actually happened.

The role of The Friends has been changed, here is the new role and it's rules, as added to the first post:
