With the one inf remaining from the base capture, P1 can go either for the airport or the cities north of the western base. P2 can either go for the airport or the city west of it. It is hard to calculate which is optimal here. Presumably the best choice is the airport for P1 and the city for P2 though, which leads to P2 potentially delaying his airport capture. And 3 bases mean that one side yet again gets to capture 2 bases earlier.

Couldn't we have 4 bases instead of 3 and have each player capture 2 of them first?

I also think that an even number of bases by player makes it easier to get the FTA counter correct.
On this map like on many others you do not normally start building from the airport immediately after capturing it, so capturing an airport does not balance against a base.
P1 captures 1 base first, P2 captures 2 bases first. So we have a small advantage for P2 here.

I think the total difference is still very small.

I agree with ultra; If you don't want to give out starting bases due to FTA issues with funds, then I think you will have to have an even number of bases, either 2 or 4. It is much easier to be sure a map with an even number of bases will be balanced, that way you don't have to worry about early capture phases from infantry who aren't necessary for capturing a base causing FTA or STA. That way, you know the only best option is going immediately for the base, and if you don't, you are putting yourself at a disadvantage.

Obviously you will want 2 base HF maps to be a bit smaller and with a lower funds setting than 4 base, but these sorts of things aren't as worrying as FTA or STA caused by an uneven base amount.

The best option is obviously the 4 cities. If it were 3 instead of 4, then the other options might seem better. 4 cities means 21 income once capture phase is over, which means 3 tanks a day.

I think the only other option that could be worth it would have to be the comm tower, city, and missile silo, but you would have to essentially win the game with an early rush by taking more cities in the middle and leaving the opponent without forces to counter attack.

Either way, because the 4 cities is the best option without question, there is FTA.

Yeah, that's the obvious way to do it. I would prefer to figure out an appropriate counter for 3-base maps instead of taking the easy route though, especially because in my opinion 3 is a better number of bases for a lot of maps. 2-base maps need to be quite small, and 4-base maps end up getting a bit crowded. So that's why I've been playing around with counters for 3-base maps.

As for Stormiest Glen, I'll leave my comments in the Design Maps forum.

It was a very difficult fight. I managed to push your line back but during an extended amount of time I was unable to capture your cities.
And this meter charge rate is really awesome you triggered your COPs three times in a row. At this point I thought I would lose.

The battleship, Missiles you produced weren't bad but I think it wasn't made at the right timing. At this point you should have been able to pressure me a bit more. These units were useful at mid-game (the battleship threaten the south-east city and made my SCOP useless. The missiles probably prevent me from attacking many times) But they were produced very early I'm not sure it was a good thing.

NGC6240, Mr--Clean, and oswaldoo12 have received auto-losses for their Month 2 Colosseum games after failing to join them in the specified time period. Excrimophalus and laden have also not joined their games, but both are currently on vacation.

As of right now, the next tournament opens Dec. 22nd. Check around though, there may be another opening before then. :)

All FoW, Misc. and Norm. games for Month 3 have been created. The format for the passwords is the same as for the first two months, check the first page (Month 3) to find out which games you should be joining. Remember that the player listed first joins as Player 1.

You don't need to join your games until the end of January 6th at the latest. I will be making HF games in the next few days.

Edit: Month 3 HF games have now been made also. All players have until Jan. 6th to join their games, and I will send out PM reminders on Jan. 1st as usual.
