Team Transferring upon Boot

Postby EchelonThree » Thu Feb 14, 2008 4:13 am

How many times have you taken part in a team match (2v2), and then had your partner resign or get booted?

Whatever... I'll jump to the point..

The suggestion is that when your parner resigns or gets booted, all his units and properties revert to your control.

That would probably break a lot of games, especially on smaller maps, because two separate teams will have limited funds each, but one big team would be able to buy units unavailable to the other side, which might ruin the game balance (only in certain cases of course).

Also, a main point of team games is that you have to work together, so if one team became under one players control that would give that team an advantage as there would be no challenge with working as a team. So it'd actually be an advantage to have your teammate booted, which seems wrong!

As annoying as this is Echelon, I have to agree with Dhomo, I really don't see this working well.

Could the other players props and units go to his control, but still be a separate army? Basically one person would play both players.

How about when a player is booted, the game is automatically suspended and placed back on the public games list so that a new player could join and take over the booted player's army?

That has been suggested before. Seems like an okay idea assuming someone more reliable would want to join, and the current players are happy with doing that.

Not sure the best way to impliment it, whether or not all players should have to agree first like with set draw, and if the game should be public or private, allowing a player to find their own team mate. This might also allow the original player who got booted to rejoin which is somewhat quirky. it could all get quite long winded

If you're playing with people who might get booted, either just make the boot limit longer or play with other people instead! sorted

It would be nice if this was an option the game creator could set.
"if one player gets booted, return game to public games to find a replacement player that takes over the turn and the rest of the game, for the booted player" yes/no

Should be soley up to the game creator to decide who fills the spot, just as when the game was first made. After all, he could delete the game at any time if he chose, so the other players shouldn't complain too much if he allows someone in who is "too good" or "too noob".

If the game creator was the one who got booted, the player who took the last turn previous could automatically get ownership of the game.
