Well there's nothing stopping anyone from making their own FoW tournaments or competitions, so something is clearly preventing FoW from being used in competitions. I'm in the "annoyed people" camp, so don't expect it from me.

Don't you rather mean "annoyed people that don't like to lose because of luck" ?

Actually, FOW is probably the second most glitchy part of AWBW (first being tag, obv), so that a bit more annoying when, say, and early game is delayed and remade which then leads to the whole tournament getting stalled for what can easily be months.

Seriously, AWBW tournaments do not need any more help getting stalled.

If you want a FOW tournament though, there's absolutely nothing stopping you guys from making one. You'd need to make sure you have a better method for dealing with glitches than "whatever start the thing over", though.

Yeah, each FOW tournament (and maybe also to a lesser degree other tournaments) should ideally specify how to deal with each glitch.
Looking at the list viewtopic.php?f=29&t=14263 there are not really any issues which would require a restart of the match.
My recommendation would be to

1.) Attacking later - forbid to use it. If you know this bug you can never accidentally use it. So forbidding to use it is a viable option.
(alternatively you could also just allow to use it, but I like this option less)

2.) Interrupting property capture
allow legal use of this glitch
This bug should simply be allowed. If both players know about this glitch, it just slightly changes the way the game goes. But it does not destroy a game. It just changes tactical options.
Forbidding the use of this issue seems impractical because you can use it accidentally.

3.) Screenshot shows captured properties
Take care of this issue when selecting map and when changing your country color. No side should play as purple lightning -> no problem.

4.) Pipe vision
If both players know this glitch, it is no big problem. Both sides are affected in the same way.

Looking at these solutions, there is no real problem for a tournament. Restarts should not be necessary. Use of a forbidden glitch should be counted as a loss of the game.

Of course these are just my recommendations and any tournament organisers could modify how to deal with those glitches

Birds in a Cage

This a map I just finished for FOW. The center area is for foot soldiers only and it only takes 2 turns to set up a scout.

I like it a lot too, and the sides look much better now than they did before. If you want a test game, you know where to find me. :)

Enjoyed my match on birds in a cage! Maybe the carriers are a bit much, but other than that not bad at all. I think you went to the middle a bit early. If you go for the mountains that fast, you should try to put your infantry on the forward mountains (or in the forest in front of the mountain). You sacrifice a lot from capture phase when you do that, so it is better to wait until you think vehicles are coming out (because vehicles are what you want to scout).
You also used too many infantry in the middle. Knowing what your opponent builds is important, but it probably isn't worth it to attack the other infantry on a mountains unless you are attacking then repairing from andy SCOP or something. Better to have infantry out capturing central properties and meatshielding for the main battle than it is trying to destroy scouts.

Anyways GG headphone!

The carriers are meant to keep the center inf only. it would be so easy for a stray copter to pester the infs/bases in the center.

i made a Fow Multiplay map,

most of you will probably hate it, because it isnt one of the standard ones.

I like playing on the vast 'earthling' map, so this is inspired by that, but within 40x40 square.
it is called 'wide open spaces'

tweaks and suggestions welcome, but if you don't iike the style overall, don;'t be too abusive!

Ok, i had a bright idea about tightening up the previous map.
I quite like this one, it is for multiplay FoW.
All suggestions welcom

It looks to me like the corner countries are at a large disadvantage since there are no neutral properties near them and they have no way of getting to the center without going through another country
