http://awbw.amarriner.com/game.php?games_id=68864 Gyroptic is unbalanced. If AB builds a recon on day 3, it can severely damage the infantry JS sends west to intercept AB's base capture. JS would have to build no infantry at all on day 2 and invest all the money in a recon to do the same, greatly hindering JS's attempts to hold the base or to intercept AB's base capture. Furthermore, the option of JS sending the starting infantry west can't be done because it delays JS's capture of the southern base by 1 turn, making it a lot more difficult to capture it. This is a good example why maps with middle bases tend to have balance issues.

As for An Abriged Version, by looking at the games, it seems like recon rushing the enemy base is popular. I don't think it was a smart idea to allow any CO to reach the enemy base in 1 turn.

And the round 3 map, Let's Kill Melon Land has the same concept of middle bases. Although it has (appearantly) been tested, I am still a bit sceptical about its balance.

Now, are we sure that these maps are balanced?

Hey I agree with Ultra Storm and we should throw out the results of the Gyroptic map! (Even though I was AB, but nevermind.)

Incidentally, you built the recon 1 turn later which seems to be a huge mistake on that map.

Yeah I wasn't disagreeing with your assessment of the map. I was laughing that if it happens to be thrown out, I'm benefiting even though I lost as AB.

I didn't notice the recon thing (obviously). Oh well, live and learn! ;)

Gyroptic IS balanced. JS can send his infantery west on turn 1, AB can send his infantery east on turn 2. Both JS and AB can build a recon turn 3. Thus, the map is perfectly balanced, I really don't see where your problem is.
(well, after seeing your game, I see that your problem is that you sent your infantery south and not west. But it's your fault, not the map's).

A balanced map doesn't mean that nothing funky can happen. It means that both sides can do them. As far as I know, it is the case for An Abridged version.

As for Let's Kill Melon Land, the discussion is closed. I will be the first to suffer if ever I am wrong, but I'm pretty confident I'm not.

"An Abridged Version" is slightly leaning towards BM, since BM can secure one COM Tower and disrupt OS's capturing unless OS builds a recon in the left base and BM sends an infantry to attack the inf. going for the COM Tower.

OS's com tower is the one on the right
and OS can pull anything vs BM that BM can pull against it

Somewhat. OS has to buy a recon day 2 on the left base in order to stop BM from getting a turn 4 COM Tower. BM, however, only has to send an inf, because he has enough turns to.
