Information
How It Works
General Information
1. Forming Teams
- All players will be split into teams. Each team consists of 2 players.
- You may choose who you would like to team up with. This can be done at any time before the competition starts, as long as your partner isn't already on another team. You cannot change teams once the competition has started.
- Each team must also choose a team name. This should be either posted in the thread, or sent to me (Walker) as a PM.
- A team is created once both players have posted in the thread, confirmed their teammate, and chosen a team name and game board.
- Players who do not have a team can still participate -- all single players will be paired up with a teammate after signups are closed.
2. The Game Boards
- Each team gets one game board. You choose your own board from the 6 options (A thru F), which are shown below.
- Each board consists of 25 tiles, with each tile corresponding to a broken CO matchup. The large letters designate your CO, and the small letters designate your opponent's CO. So for example, if you are fighting as Grit vs. Colin, the corresponding tile on the board is labeled GC.
- For every win you or your teammate achieves, a tile is filled in on your board corresponding to the matchup. The FREE tile is filled in for every team automatically.
- You earn points by filling up your board with wins. The scoring system is given below.
- Each team's board will be publicly viewable, so you can keep tabs on how each of the other teams are doing.
3. The Games
Note: All games are 1 vs. 1 games.
- Each person will play roughly 10 games over the course of the competition (exact # depends on how many people join), using only broken COs. The games will not all start at once, but in stages over the course of about 2-3 months.
- The match-ups will be randomly chosen. You may play the same person more than once.
- Each player chooses their own CO for each game.
- It is NOT against the rules to communicate with your opponent to arrange favorable CO match-ups. Part of the competition is meant to be this diplomacy between players. Lies, backstabs, and other intrigues are not just viable, but encouraged -- but beware damaging your reputation.
4. How To Win
- The competition is over once all games are completed, and the team with the most points is the winner.
- The winners will be recorded in the Hall of Fame. In addition, all of the maps used in the tournament will be renamed after their team, to reflect their eternal glory.
------------------------------------------
Scoring
Essentially, you score points by filling in tiles on the board, which you do by winning games. The objective is to try to fill in as many adjacent tiles on the board as possible, in order to get the maximum points. Only vertical and horizontal tiles count as adjacent; diagonals do not count. For the sake of clarity, I am calling any string of horizontally or vertically connected filled-in tiles a "row".
- You score 1 pt for filling in a lone tile (i.e., a tile not adjacent to any other filled-in tiles).
- For every row of tiles you fill in, you score points equal to the additive length of that row. For example, a row that is 2 tiles long is worth 1+2 = 3 pts, 3 tiles long is worth 1+2+3 = 6 pts, 4 long is 10 pts, and 5 long is 15 pts. Note that extending a row's length only earns you points for the longest row, not both. For example, extending a row from 3 to 4 tiles only scores you 4 additional pts, as the row is now worth 10 pts instead of 6 pts.
- The FREE tile does not count for any points by itself, but can count as a tile in a row. For example, a 3-tile row including the FREE tile still counts for 6 pts.
- For every tile you fill in more than one time, you earn 1 pt.
- If you win a game for which the tile is not on your board, you earn 1 pt.
- You score 1 pt for every 2 games you lose (2 losses = 1 pt). Losing by boot is worth 0 pts.
- The GJ tile (Grit vs. Javier) counts as a x2 multiplier. For example, filling in the GJ tile to form a block of 3 tiles would count as 6 pts -- (3 pts) * (multiplier of 2).
- You receive a bonus 5 pts for filling in all 4 tiles for one CO (e.g.: all 4 G tiles).
------------------------------------------
Scoring Example
Example Board

Let's say this is what your board looks like at the end of the competition. Your team won 10 games and lost 10. Here is your score:
1. KJ = 1 pt
2. HJ-GG = 3 pts
3. HH-SK-KS = 6 pts
4. JH-GJ-HS = 12 pts (GJ = x2 multiplier)
5. SJ-FREE-HH-GG = 10 pts
Total (from filled-in tiles): 32 pts.
Then add the 5 pts from losing 10 games, and the total overall score would be 37 pts.

Competition Rules and Maps
Rules
- All games will be created by the admin (me). Players will have 7 days to join their games after the games for each round have been created.
- If your opponent does not join your game for a round, you may fill in any tile of your choice on the board, with the exception of the GJ tile (Grit vs. Javier). If a choice is not made, a random tile will be selected by the admin. This counts as a loss by boot for the player who does not join (and for both players if neither joins).
- Vacations are allowed and unlimited. However, players stalling games with vacations will forfeit all games, if deemed necessary.
- All maps used (shown below) have been made specifically for the tournament. The map will be chosen randomly for each game.
- Only broken COs are unbanned (Colin, Grit, Hachi, Javier, Kanbei, and Sensei). No other COs are allowed.
- Black bombs are universally banned. All games are fog OFF, tags OFF, funds 1000, powers ON, and weather CLEAR.
- The boot/AET will be 4/6 for all games. Boots will count as wins/losses respectively, and draws will count as losses.
- All games will have a day limit of 35 days. A capture limit will be applied on a map by map basis.
