Colosseum Season 6 Standings - Winner is Ultra Storm!

Welcome to the 6th season of Colosseum! Below you can find the rules, standings, and current results of the competition.

Rules

- Players will be organized into divisions of 7 players each

- Each player will play 6 games, mostly against opponents of their own division and also against opponents from neighboring divisions; you will play each opponent a maximum of one time

- Each player will play 2 games a month for 3 months (some might play 1 or 3 some months, depending on how it works out)

- There will be 4 categories of games:
1) High funds - 2000 < funds per property < 3000.
2) Fog of War - games played with FoW turned on.
3) Miscellaneous - a variety of options; for example: broken COs, black tile or gimmick maps, etc.
4) Normal - regular games (funding 1000, FoW off, CO Powers on, weather off, tags off)

- At signup, each player chooses which categories they would like to play games in (up to all 4 categories)

- Each player will receive games only in the categories they requested, and will play approximately equal numbers of games per category if they requested more than one

- Each month, all games will be created by the admin (Walker), and passwords will be sent to players; all players must join their games within 5 days of the password being sent out (exceptions can be made for vacations)

- Rankings within each division will be determined according to total points (regardless of category). It is 2 pts for a win, 1 pt for a draw, 0 pts for a loss.

- The top 2 from each division will move up and bottom 2 will move down at the end of the season according to total points

- Universal settings: Boot/AET = 5/7, tags = off, weather = clear, black bombs are banned

- If a player is booted from a game, an attempt will be made to contact them. Failure to respond results in forfeit of all further games for the season

- Maps will be selected by the admin and announced at the beginning of each month

- There will be 2-3 maps per category each month

- Bans and settings will be chosen on a map by map basis, and there will be at least 2-3 different settings per map

The divisions, schedule, maps, and matchups are all posted above. All games for Colosseum Month 1 have been made and PMs have been sent to everyone who is participating. You have 5 days to join your game. I will start games as soon as both people have joined, so make sure you are ready when you join.

You should read through the rules at least briefly, but I also have a few notes about the format.

- Everyone's category requests were fulfilled
- I tried to give everyone 2 games per month, but had to give Desklamp and Rush_FTK 3 games in Month 1 and 1 game in Month 3
- I tried to have everyone play as player 1 and player 2 an equal amount of times. It worked out except for sarastro I believe, who has 4 games as P1 and 2 as P2. This means someone else has 2 as P1 and 4 as P2, but I didn't notice it as I went
- Everyone plays the same person only once
- I tried to have everyone play the other people in their own divisions as much as possible, and I tried also to have everyone in a division play a relatively equal strength of schedule. It didn't work out perfectly because of category requests, and the only notable exceptions are fdkanns (who has a much easier schedule than everyone else in Div. 1) and Rush_FTK (who has a much harder schedule than everyone else in Div. 5B)
- Keep in mind that divisions are somewhat arbitrary - I based them off of league standings, Colosseum season 5 results, my own personal knowledge of a player, and also suggestions from other trusted players. If you think you're in a division too high or too low, then the only real option you have is to prove it with the results of your games
- Because we have 6 players who wanted FoW only, I made division 5b into a "FoW division" - Rush is the only one in the division who did not request FoW games only
- CO bans and settings will vary from map to map. I have 3 settings for most maps and less for some - I'll try to give everyone a variety of settings over the course of the season, but no guarantees because it's a lot to keep track of
- On that note, I wanted "No COP" to be an option for HF games. However, the method I used for creating the games doesn't support No COP, so I banned everyone except Adder in those games. If you really want to do a No COP game, you can have an agreement with your opponent not to use CO Powers in those games, but otherwise Adder vs. Adder should be fine

I'm sure there are more details that I'm forgetting, but that's enough for now. If you have any questions, problems, complaints, or whatever else (compliments?), please feel free to PM me. It probably won't change anything, but at least you'll feel better about yourself theoretically.

I lost to Div3 players, won very very hard against Div5 players. hmm...

That's one of the great things about Colosseum this season. A lot of the players in Division 2 are probably good enough to compete with players in Division 1. Similarly, many Division 3 players can probably beat Division 2 players and Division 4 can beat Division 3 and so on. That's one reason I didn't mind going across divisions for matches; I think the cross-division games will be just as hard as in-division games. But I had to cut divisions somewhere, and so I did it to the best of my (admittedly imperfect) judgment.

Playing 20 turns on the same day is nice.
I took one more city in the opening, but Lalann pushed me back, and I did some mistakes (a misclick wasted an arty attack on an APC on day 13 ). Eventually I got more cities, which after a long struggle lead to victory. I forgot Lash's power and was fooled by a 1HP recon which went spying on my units on day 24. I tried to go spying too, but was spotted quickly.
The map is good in FoW, there is one symmetry error though. Overall, pretty fun, but now I'm tired. Good night!

Competing against Grid was too hardcore. Sadly enough I overlooked the possibility to pick up Grit. Mass spaming artys and having enough funds to afford major air force support makes a rather solid strategy.
