Hetchel's AWBW game recorder/replayer tool

Postby hetchel » Sat Nov 12, 2011 2:24 am

=== edit ===

This program downloads, displays and archive the replays of finished games.
Paste the url of the game the hit Download and wait a while.
When the replay is shown, you can conveniently navigate between turns using the mouse wheel (unless the focus is in the log text box).
You can toggle options like fog of war and little arrows to show units movement.
Then you can save the replay for viewing later, or export it to html, or just images.
This is useful because after a while, finished games are removed from the website and cannot be accessed anymore.

Latest Release: AWBW Replay Tool v10
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/31240947/AWBWTool-v10.zip

To run on Windows, run the .exe
To run on Linux, use your package manager to install mono and libmono-winforms2.0-cil, then run "mono AWBWTool.exe"
To run on MacOSX, get Mono here (http://download.mono-project.com/archiv ... in.x86.dmg) then run "mono AWBWTool.exe"
There are some known graphical bugs when running on Linux and MacOSX.

===== original post =====

Ok, here is AWBWTool version 2. It's awesomer.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/31240947/AWBWTool-v2.zip

What's new?
* Added a button to export the replay to local HTML.
* Added FoW (it was a bit difficult). Note: fog rendering is slow.
* Added optional arrows to show unit movements.
* The game name is now displayed.
* Try to workaround the lab/tower income bug.
* Fixed JJEmpire's bug (can't download games with no power bar).
* Added brand new bugs (I don't know which just yet).
* Broke replay file compatibility. I guess no one is going to use it, now that there is export to html. So, your old .awbw files still have to be opened with AWBWTool v1.

What's not done?
* COP power bar image, and display active powers. Not yet. Sorry.
* support passive CO in tag games
* record and display player teams
* possibility to position the CO's bar below the map
* support 'out of ammo' image

Unfortunately it still probably doesn't work on Mac.

But now, the replays can be exported to a HTML file (and a directory of images), which do work on Mac.

See, my tool now creates files that look like this:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/31240947/Assass ... Lalann.zip
or even (new!) like this:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/31240947/arrows ... Lalann.zip

Admittedly the page is not very beautiful, but it does enable one to save replays offline.

This tool is of interest to many players. Could we rename the thread and make it sticky?

Thank you all ^_^

Are you using it regularly? If you find bugs, please tell me. I wonder what I should add next when I find more time to work on it.

Things I may do:
* add images of CO, country in HTML export
* add links to players, game and map in HTML export
* support forests/reefs when showing FoW vision. Also, support infantry+mountain.
* support 'out of ammo' image
* display stats on units, attack...
* better CO power display (power bar, and which are active)
* support passive CO in tag games
* record and display player teams
* add buttons to switch on/off the display of fog and arrows in HTML export

The things I would like most would be...

1: Game analysis: Information on units built, lost and destroyed per country, powers used etc...

2: Map analysis: I don't know if you decided to include the game map info in the end? But if it were included in the file it would be really useful for analysis. It would really help lay to rest some of the questions about Terrain specialists, as you could actually generate a list of all the attacks made during a game, and see what kind of terrain was involved.

It would also be useful for giving infantry increased vision from mountain during fog. I do actually think that's a pretty important one for fog, because people use infantry in almost every fog game. I watched a fog game back recently, and that was the one thing that really stood out as being wrong.

Yes, I am.

Before, I used to make a screenshot after an interesting game has ended, to preserve some kind of memory. Now I can use your tool to store the whole replay. This is a big step forward.

Your ideas for further improvement sound good. For me the fog of war improvement would be the most interesting.

This would be very helpful. I'd like an option to export screenshots which include the COs, CO power meters, funds and income.
hetchel wrote:* better CO power display (power bar, and which are active)
This would also be very nice but if you add CO power bars, don't remove the exact percentages. It's useful to know them too.

* include the COs, CO power meters, funds and income into the screenshots
