Hope for the future of Advance Wars?

Postby [JAM] » Wed Apr 03, 2013 2:50 am

So I'm reading an interview of the developers of Fire Emblem: Awakening, and one of the first things that caught my attention was a mention of Advance Wars. In this interview, I read this (found on the fourth page of the interview):

"Higuchi: Well, whether it's Fire Emblem or the Advance Wars, we never want to put an end to any series we're involved with. We always want to make games that provide a lot of fun to gamers, so if we have the chance, we'd certainly like to make another [Advance Wars] title."

With this, perhaps all hope is not lost on one of our favorite strategy games. We at least know they would want to make another one.

The key word here is chance. And that's because nintendo is the one calling the shots, and they're shooting for the bottom line.

Why make an AW game with the chance of another flop like AW4, when you can make a new/port zelda/mario game and be guaranteed millions of sells?

Rand and I had a brief conversation about this in irc. We both agreed it sounds like they don't have funding/won't make money, so it won't happen.

Which is why I bolded that part of the quote.

New Advance Wars would be cool. Unlikely, but cool.

The future of Advance War is with us! Someone learn how to program in HTML 5 or something and make a slicker version of this place?

Well, the work on Ad Hoc Commander is steadily progressing. :)

It's not a sequel to the advance wars games, but will be similar in the core mechanics.
It also is a browser game (flash, not html5) and the games and everything will be saved on a server.

More information about it is in the Customization Section of this forum.

I hope we get a new one, one day. I still enjoy AWDS and try to beat to beat my war room records.
